Installation

Spa Covers:

How to fit your spa cover

  1. Place your spa cover on the spa and position correctly.
  2. If your spa has air controls on the top, then press the spa cover firmly down over each control. Lift the spa cover and feel for indentations then further compress foam with your thumbs.
  3. Your spa cover comes with a packet which contains keys, screws and warranty.
  4. Determine the position on the spa surrounds (decking, paving, concrete or side of spa) to screw on the safety locks provided. These are attached to the straps.
  5. Check that the pronged fittings on each strap will easily reach and clip into their respective locks when the spa cover is correctly positioned on the spa.
  6. Mark and drill holes for each lock. Masonry bit and plastic ground plugs will be required if going into paving or concrete. Ensure the position of the locks allows for small amount of strap play and that the straps are not pulled too tight as this will stress the stitching holding the straps in place.
  7. Screw locks into position.
  8. Fasten spa cover in place.

TIPS

  • Leave the spa cover off for at least one hour after chemical addition to your spa water.
  • Spraying a lubricant on the zip slider occasionally will ensure that the zip opens easily in years to come.
  • Avoid pets sleeping, or children climbing and jumping on your spa cover.
  • When your spa is not in use, place the spa cover on and lock down.
  • Do not run the spa jets while the cover is on the spa.

Caring for your spa cover

When cleaning your spa cover use a mild detergent only and rinse thoroughly. We recommend the use of a vinyl protectant to enhance your spa covers life. Please ring our friendly office staff to assist on (03) 9262 6900.

Do not walk, jump or lie on your spa cover. The stress weight is a static weight, factored over the whole spa cover. Walking, jumping or lying on the spa cover is an impact weight over the fraction of the area. This will stress the form inserts and cause water retention within the foam, making your spa cover extremely heavy to lift and reducing your spa covers life significantly.

When removing your spa cover from the spa, ensure locking straps have been unfastened from the locks. Do not lift or pull your cover by its straps, flaps, skirts or heat seals as this can cause undue stress on the stitching. Instead, lift by the edge of the cover, and use the handles to re-position once on the spa. Lift always, never drag, drop or slide the spa cover.

Roll-On Spa Covers:

To ensure you get the most out of your new cover, here are some important steps to follow:

  • Careful Unboxing: Please handle your cover with care during the unboxing process. Avoid using sharp objects to prevent any damage. DO NOT use a knife or a blade, hand unwrap only.
  • Positioning: Lift your Roll-on cover onto the end of your spa, then roll it out gently.
  • Bow Alignment: To ensure proper functionality, roll the cover back and forth once to ensure all bows are in the correct upright position.
  • Roll-on Spa Cover: must be strapped down firmly end to end for adequate water run off.
  • Roll-on cover: should always be rolled both ways to prolong the life of the cover.
  • Please never keep: the Roll-on Spa cover rolled up for a prolonged period.

General cleaning STEPS:

  • Brush off loose dirt
  • Hose down
  • Prepare a cleaning solution of water & mild detergent
  • Use a soft bristle brush to clean
  • Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric
  • Rinse thoroughly until all detergent residue is removed
  • Air dry
  • May not require re-treatment depending on the age of the fabric.

Extra if needed: If stubborn stains persist, you can use a diluted chlorine bleach/detergent mixture for spot cleaning of mildew, or other similar stains. Re-treating the fabric as part of the finishing process, Sunbrella fabrics are treated with a fluorocarbon finish, which enhances water repellence. This finish is designed to last for several years but must be replenished after a thorough cleaning. Use our Australian Spa Covers treatment product for Sunbrella fabrics. Fabrics should be re-treated after thorough cleaning or after five years of use.

How to Install Spa cover clips:

If you have elected to have locking straps included with your spa cover, then you will need to fit them onto the spa surrounds once the cover is in place. How you do that depends upon whether your spa is portable or in-ground and what type of surface surrounds your spa.

Installing Locks into Wood (Portable Spa)

Your cover will have anywhere between 2 and 20 locks, depending on its size and shape. Typically, the number of locks is between 4 and 8. When you receive your spa cover, the male clips are sewn into the vinyl courtesy of a webbing strap. The female clips (locks), stainless steel screws and plastic locks will come in a separate pack with the warranty.

How to install the Locks

Once you put your spa cover on for the first time, allow the lock straps to dangle over the edge. Clip the female clips (found in the separate lock pack) onto the male clips at the end of the straps and then place the whole lock against the wooden side of the spa in the exact location that you want it to be fitted.

Important: Always allow a little bit of slack in the strap. Do not install the locking straps too tightly.

When you are happy with the lock location, pinch out the male clip and then either screw (self-tap) the screws directly through screw-holes in the plastic lock or use a 7/64" drill bit to drill the two holes. You may even choose to use a pencil to mark the two-hole locations, remove the lock and then drill the two holes.

Whatever method you choose, it's very intuitive and not at all difficult.

If you chose to pre-drill the holes, then it's now simply a matter of attaching the female clip to the wood by screwing the stainless-steel screws through the holes in the plastic clip. If you chose to self-tap the screws in, then that's all that's required. Clip the male clip in and repeat the process for the other lock straps.

How to install the Locks

Once you put your spa cover on for the first time, allow the lock straps to dangle over onto the decking. Clip the female clips (found in the separate lock pack) onto the male clips at the end of the straps and then place the whole lock on the decking in the exact location that you want it to be fitted.

When you are happy with the lock location, pinch out the male clip and then drill directly through the two screw-holes in the plastic lock using a 7/64" drill bit. Alternatively, you may elect to use a pencil to mark the two-hole locations, remove the lock and then drill the two holes. Self-tapping the screws in is probably not an option (as it is when installing onto the sides of a portable spa with its soft wood). The wood used for your decking is probably too tough.

Whatever method you choose, it's very intuitive and not at all difficult.

If you chose to pre-drill the holes, then it's now simply a matter of attaching the female clip to the decking by screwing the stainless-steel screws through the holes in the plastic clip. Clip the male section in and repeat the process for the other lock straps.

There should be two black plastic keys included with the lock pack. If you require increased spa safety, then use these keys to lock the clips. They are all keyed alike, so contact us if you ever need a replacement.

Installing Locks onto Concrete, Brick or Bluestone

Your cover will have anywhere between 2 and 20 locks, depending on its size and shape. The female clips (locks), stainless steel screws and plastic locks will come in a separate pack with the warranty.

How to install the Locks

Once you put your spa cover on for the first time, allow the lock straps to dangle over onto the brick. Clip the female locks (found in the separate lock pack) onto the male clips at the end of the straps and then place the whole lock on the brick, concrete or bluestone in the exact location that you want it to be fitted.

Important: Always allow a little bit of slack in the strap. Do not install the locking straps too tightly.

When you are happy with the lock location, pinch out the male clip and then use a pencil to mark the two drill holes (directly through the two screw-holes in the plastic lock). You will then move the female lock to one side and then drill the two holes using a hammer drill and a 5 mm drill bit. You will now need to hammer 5 mm raw plug into the two drill holes. Now it's simply a matter of attaching the female clip to the brick or concrete by screwing the stainless-steel screws through the holes in the plastic clip and into the raw plug. Clip the male section in and repeat the process for the other lock straps.

Installing Locks directly onto the Spa

Your cover will have anywhere between 2 and 20 locks, depending on its size and shape. Typically, the number of locks is between 4 and 8. When you receive your spa cover, the male clips are sewn into the vinyl courtesy of a webbing strap. The female clips (locks), stainless steel screws and plastic locks will come in a separate pack with the warranty.

This installation method is considered last resort. It should only be done when there is no other alternative location for the locks to be fitted. An example would be an outdoor spa installed in a garden area with no wood, brick or concrete around it.

Please note:When locking clips need to be fitted onto the spa itself, the locking straps need to be short (around 6 - 8 cm long, including the male clip) and sewn under the skirt (instead of outside the skirt, as it is for all other installations). When the cover is on and the locks clipped in place, you won't be able to see the locks (they are hidden under the cover skirt). This means that any reasonably strong adult attempting to remove the cover without realizing that there are clips, could potentially tear them out of the vinyl.

How to install the Locks

Once you put your spa cover on for the first time, reach under the skirt and make sure the short lock straps, with the male clip attached, can hang over the lip. Clip the female locks (found in the separate lock pack) onto the male clips at the end of the straps and then place the whole lock on the vertical lip of the spa in the exact location that you want it to be fitted.

When you are happy with the lock location, pinch out the male clip and then drill holes directly through the two holes in the female clip and into the acrylic lip of the spa. Use a 7/64" wood drill bit. The acrylic will heat up and spiral out from the bit in long twisted pieces. It may take up to 30 seconds to drill each hole.

Now it's simply a matter of attaching the female clip to the spa lip by screwing the stainless-steel screws through the holes in the plastic clip and into the spa. Clip the male section in and repeat the process for the other lock straps.
